Tidal Headland Movie 2

If the movie does not play in this window, download it (AVI, 125Kb) and view with a separate movie player.

If you don't have a movie player that allows fine control over frame advancement and reverse, consider obtaining one. For the Mac and Windows environments, try the free QuickTime viewer from Apple. For Unix systems, try xanim (also free).

Movie 2. Long term sand bank development for the coarse silt suspended load case, over 15 years of simulation. During the first few years, the initial bed thickness of 3 m is rapidly depleted in the vicinity of the headland tip and the banks grow quickly. Once the region surrounding the headland tip is depleted, the bank growth is much more gradual. The banks continue to grow and to become slightly more elongated over the length of the 15 year run. The -2 and 2 m contours of bed change are shown to help visually define the erosional area near the headland tip and the accumulating sand banks on either side.

This movie is part of a paper entitled "Modeling Sand Bank Formation Around Tidal Headlands" by Signell and Harris, which can be found at http://smig.usgs.gov/SMIG/features_0300/headland.html
